A developer has created Outer Shell, an open-source graphical interface framework that lets remote servers and edge devices serve browser-based apps over SSH using Unix domain sockets instead of network ports. The system positions HTML/web apps as an alternative to terminal tools, with native applications handling more complex tasks, filling a gap that existing server tools like Jupyter have addressed only piecemeal.
